The Metropolitan No. 1 steam locomotive pulls into Farringdon station, where the banquet celebrating the opening of the London Underground was held on 9 January 1863. Looking on from the siding is a present-day lead-acid battery-powered locomotive used for engineering works when track current is switched off.
